Always something to see at the farm! Moon rise on July 2, 2012.
Harvest Newsletter, September 2012
Week 15 of 18
Farm News: Temps for Monday night were predicted to drop to the 30’s, which means that tomato plants in the field may not survive. Adam has also been very busy harvesting sweet potatoes which are also sensitive to cold temps and will continue after Mondays CSA harvest/delivery. Gladly, sweet potatoes looked great!
This week’s harvest includes: Winter squash, Carrots (Nelson or yaya), Summer squash (Success and Goldy) and Zucchini (Dunja and Partenon), Patty Pan Summer Squash (saucer-shaped), Cucumbers (Marketmore 76), Tomatoes (various varieties from the field), Eggplant (Falcon [purple] or Listada , [white and purple]), red peppers, green peppers (lipstick and Ace), and hot peppers (Jalapeño and Hot Wax), maybe arugula, kale, and potatoes.
*Variations from the above list may happen.
Logistics, Reminders and Important Notices: Call us with CSA questions/issues you may have (507) 720-5364.
Recipes and Tips
Cooked/baked squash made into a puree makes a great curry/ginger/coconut milk soup garnished with sliced red peppers (sautéed or raw, you decide).
Make a black bean salsa with diced tomatoes, peppers and add thawed organic sweet corn, season with garlic and salt. Serve over brown rice or as a wrap. If possible soak and cook your own beans instead of using canned.
