Greetings Members,

The past week sure felt like fall!   The rain was welcomed even if we had to harvest in the downpour at times.  Adam is busy turning over beds and getting areas ready to cover crop as crops finish and time allows.   The yearly watermelon feed this year will not take place since a disease came through and finished off the crop earlier than expected.  We are glad to have had enough to send in the shares for 2 weeks and some for wholesale.

Anticipated Harvest: potatoes, tomatoes, onions, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, beets, kale, eggplant, peppers  (maybe cantaloupe, sage and thyme).

In our kitchen: Eggplant breaded with buckwheat flour

Have a great week!

week 9 of 18, August 10, 2015

Greetings Members,

A belated post today – it was a crazy busy harvest day.  The watermelons are at least 2 weeks early in ripening (partly a blessing) since a disease is wiping the vines out and damaging the fruit exterior.

Harvest: green beans, watermelon, cucumbers, zucchini, onions, carrots, potatoes, and a tomato.

Enjoy the produce and have a great week!

week 8 of 18, August 3, 2015

Greetings Members,

August has arrived which means watermelon will hopefully ripen by the end of the month!  This week we discovered vine borer damage in the squash, most damage done to the Hubbard varieties.  The squash that have formed look great – we are hoping the squash will continue to ripen despite the invasive bug inside the vines of the plants.

Anticipated Harvest – New this week green beans!  Also look for cukes, zucchini, fennel, kale, beets, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, and onions.

In our kitchen: Beet and onion hash, zucchini bread, carrot cake, caramelized fennel and eggs or rice, fennel tea, BLT, dilly beans, refrigerator pickles, and potato salad.

Have a great week!

Lupita and Adam
